H Lee White Maritime Museum Sailing Lessons

Youth Sailing

Intro to Youth Community Boating - Sponsored by Harbor Eye Associates

This free, introductory, five-hour, two-day course taught by experienced US Sailing Association certified instructors, is open to youth ages 9-17. It serves to help students determine if they are interested in pursuing additional instruction. Students learn sailing fundamentals, safe boat handling, and basic water survival. There is a $10.00 commitment fee, refundable upon completion of the course or applicable toward course fees for additional instruction.

Learn to Sail

This ten-hour, four-day course, open to youth ages 9-17, is taught by experienced instructors. As our flagship program, it is designed to “waterproof” our youth.  Small classes ensure a positive and safe learning experience. This program, a model for other community sailing programs, teaches sailing fundamentals, safe boat-handling, and water survival.  All students practice floating fully clothed, the wearing of a personal floatation device, boating safety techniques, capsize survival and recovery, hypothermia prevention, and emergency signals. $65 per child

Red Book / Small Boat Sailor

This ten-hour US Sailing course is for students who have completed the Learn to Sail program.  Each student learns to sail solo and works toward mastering 27 sailing skills including rigging, knots, and the rules of the road. A student is not expected to master all 27 skill areas during just one course. $75 per child

Adult Sailing

Adult Basic

Designed for adults  just starting out, the ten-hour Adult Basic sailing course is similar to the  youth Learn to Sail course, but is geared toward the adult learner.  Students will learn personal safety, terminology, rigging, knots, landing, steering, stopping, and more. It is taught in the safety of the Oswego Harbor on a variety of boats. $165 per adult

Adult Redbook

This US Sailing course is for adults who have completed the Adult Basic class or for those who are able to demonstrate their skills to the instructor. See Redbook / Small Boat Sailor description at left for more information.  $185 per adult

Couple / Family Sailing

This ten-hour course mirrors the Learn to Sail program, but is designed for couples or one to two parents or other adult family members and up to three children, ages 9 to 17. Learn personal safety, terminology, rigging, knots, landing, steering, stopping, and more. Sign up and save as a couple or a family! $300 couple/$390 family

Sample Sail

Not sure sailing is for you? Get out on the water for one-hour to see what you think. $20 per person per hour.
