Calling
all landlubbers, scallywags and swashbucklers! The H. Lee
White Marine Museum is proud to present an exciting evening of mayhem
and frivolity, the Pirates Parrrty set for Saturday, October 27, 2007. Step back in time
to when pirates and privateers sailed the seas. Join your ship and crew
on this evening’s adventure, greet the great Pirate King and his Queen
and assist in his quest for
secret treasure.
This exciting adult
evening will be held at the American Foundry and the festivities begin
at 7 pm. Tickets are available at the Marine Museum, river’s end
bookstore and the Picture Connection. Space is limited so get your
“golden” ticket right away! Music will abound
with jigs and line dances of old, alongside games of chance. Join the Treasure Hunt led by the finest swashbucklers that
could be found this side of the seven seas. Carouse with sailors, as
their stories of eras gone by will sure stir your inner pirate. In addition a Not
so Silent Auction will take place and specialty professional photos will
be offered by David DePasquale of Positive Image. A tantalizing
Caribbean menu buffet will satiate every landlubber’s palate. Two
tokens for pirate’s beverages are included in the ticket price. This is the second
event fund raiser for the H. Lee White Marine Museum which is
celebrating 25 years of service to our community this year. Last year,
the Museum’s first gala was “A Titanic Affair”. The sold out event
had guests from as far as Rochester, Syracuse and Connecticut and the
Museum was able to expand its children’s programs for 2007. RSVP as tickets are limited! |

The 92 ft. tall ship, the Nina (replica of Columbus' ship of the same name) will be port this weekend. Tall ship arrivals are of course subject to all sorts of delays & such but they expect to be here this Friday (June 1) and stay the weekend.
They will NOT be open for touring, but they will be docked (at least part of the time) next to the Museum, so we're a great place to come to view them from!

Invitations were mailed out - call if you didn't get yours!

The Museum staff was enlivened by the addition of Natasha Silva as summer
staff in 2006 and even more pleased to keep her on as our Sunday
staff. She is full of energy & enthusiasm and proves very
capable at the tasks set to her.
She is very experienced in the customer service field and she brings her outgoing personality to the marketing of our programs, especially our children's programming. She loves animals, residing with four cats, watching movies, She has been expanding her computer skills. While Natasha is no longer working regular shifts, she still fills in when possible and it's always a joy, for the staff and visitors, to see her here. |

The following press release was sent out by the Oswego City Police Department
Prepared by: Lt. Tory DeCaire Office: (315) 342-8146 Date: July 9, 2007 Time: 9:30 am
The
Oswego City Police Department’s Special Response Team spent a portion of their
recent training day practicing operations aboard the National Historic Landmark
“LT-5”.
The vessel’s Captain, Lance Knapp, participated in the training exercises lending his
knowledge gained from his military and civilian experiences to the Special
Response Team.
Built to serve during WW II, USAT LT-5 moved military cargo under the Army Transportation Corps. She served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. On February 3, 1944, she sailed for Great Britain to assist in the preparations for Operation Overlord. LT-5 arrived off the Normandy coast on June 7 as part of Operation Mulberry.
While many of the Army's remaining tugs were decommissioned, sold or scrapped, LT-5 was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers out of Buffalo serving from 1946 until 1989 as a Great Lakes harbor tug. She is the only known, essentially unmodified, example of the LT-type left in the United States. Her heroics during the Normandy invasion led to the awarding of National Historic Landmark status in 1991.
According to Sergeant Charles Searor, Special Response Team Assistant Commander, “Training aboard the LT-5 gave the members of the Special Response Team an opportunity to experience operations in a unique environment such as the LT-5.” The Oswego City Police Department wishes to thank the H. Lee White Marine Museum and Captain Lance Knapp for their hospitality and cooperation.
LT-5 is berthed on the West Pier in the Oswego Harbor where she is made available for public viewing through the H. Lee White Marine Museum. The LT-5 is open seasonally from May through September. The main building of the Museum is open daily year around.
